I upgraded to Platinum but I still had credits left, what will happen?

Your credits are not lost. They will stay in your account but you can't use them until such time you decide to stop your Platinum subscription.
Your credits cannot be used because as a Platinum member all articles you submit and edit are for distribution. Which means credits are not applicable anymore or not needed to distribute an article.
You can use your credits when you are not in Platinum status anymore. They will always be in your account as these credits do not expire.
